# Investor search

> Find private equity and venture capital investors and the companies they back.

Investor Search finds investment firms: use it to map which PE and VC firms are active in a space, or to find the investors behind a set of companies.

## Run a search

1. In the left navigation, open **Investors** and click **Investor Search**, then click **Select Filters**.

2. Add your criteria:

   * **Locations**: where the firm is headquartered.
   * **Sectors**: the sectors the firm invests in, using the same Sector Browser as Company Search.
   * **Scale**: the size of companies in the firm's portfolio.
   * **Attributes**: the ownership profile of portfolio companies (for example, firms that lead as primary PE owner versus participate as backers).
   * **Keywords** and **Investor Name**: free-text keywords or direct name lookup.

3. Click the button at the bottom to run the search; it shows a live count, for example **Show 2K+ investors**.

## Work with results

Click any investor to open its profile and see its portfolio, investment activity, and the leadership teams across its portfolio companies.

<Tip>
  Coming at it from the other direction also works: every company profile lists its investors, and every investor profile links back to its portfolio companies.
